Deas commonplace book, ca. 1749-ca. 1758.

Commonplace book compiled by an unknown member of the Deas family. Volume contains "Gardening: Some observations therein adapted to the climate of South Carolina," "Agriculture & c from [Richard] Bradley," "From Bradley - The description of a hot bed," "Concerning colliflowers [cauliflower] - from Bradley," "Concerning seeds," a list of the names of kings and dates of their reigns, legal notes, cures and recipes for various medical problems (n.d., 1749, 1758), treatments for horses, "A poem of Pope's on the victory of Ramillies from the Elector of Bavaria to the late French king," and "Indian medicines." In the back of the volume is "A catalogue of books with their prices" and a list of law books "imported for me in 1754." Several volumes are in Latin, French, and Italian. Although the books primarily relate to the practice of law, other volumes pertain to literature, religion, medicine, and geometry.
